Amateur Geologist is the sole licensed importer of the BelOMO loupes for North America.

These BelOMO 10x Triplet Loupe Magnifiers have a minor blemish and I won't sell them as new. They're just as good as new, there's never a problem with the lens and you save 20% more off our internet price.

About the seconds:

  • Every now and again we receive a loupe that has a screw stripped. Or maybe I do it when I treat the loupe to prevent the screws from loosening. If it's on the pivot post then I just bag it up with a replacement screw and let you replace it.
  • Sometimes it's just a loupe that's ''escaped'' its box and got a little dusty on the desk. (I wipe them off but I don't claim that they're new since they were exposed to the Owens Lake dust.)
  • Maybe the lanyard got dirty with Owens Lake dust. (The Owens Lake dust is bad. Thanks LA). Just wash it or cut it off.
  • Maybe I grabbed one to quickly examine something now I've "used" it.
  • I might scuff a screw when I'm treating the screw.
  • I might have had too much coffee (never) and the screwdriver slipped and scratched the plate.
  • Sometimes the BelOMO factory may install one of the cover plates upside-down.

If a screw is stripped then you'll receive a replacement screw. Never have I had the threads in the shaft stripped but if it is I'll send you a replacement shaft.

Anyway, the optics of the loupe are always "as new" from the factory. The loupe case just has a minor blemish, the box is dirty, the screw slot has minor scuffs or something like that and I wont to sell it as new.

  • Lanyard, Plain Black, 3/4in Nylon, with Quick Release Buckle and Split Ring

Lanyard, Plain Black, 3/4in Nylon, with Quick Release Buckle and Split Ring

Heavy duty 3/4'' plain black nylon loupe lanyard with a quick release buckle and a split ring. This lanyard may be used for any purpose but we've had it custom manufactured specifically for use with the BelOMO loupe.

Important: We offer this lanyard for no additional charge when you buy the combo package of the BelOMO loupe with attached lanyard. Attaching the lanyard requires a screw to be removed so let us do it. We've been doing it for years and you save money!

Use the split ring on loupes with a mounting hook. To use the lanyard with a BelOMO loupe remove one screw on the support shaft of your BelOMO loupe, swivel the frame out of the way and slide the end over the support shaft then install the screw again. Don't use the split ring to attach the lanyard to the loupe. (We suggest that you purchase the loupe with the lanyard already installed.)

  • Estwing 13 oz Pointed Tip Leather Gripped Rock Hammer E13P (Blemished)

As a warehousing distributor for Estwing every now and again we come across a hammer which we has a blemish and we won't sell it as new.
    • the polished surface of the hammer may be scratched. (As if you're not going to scratch it in use.)
    • the leather handles are varnished and they all go through a stage of cracking until the varnish is worn off. If they're already showing cracks we'll hold them as a blemished hammer.
    • each leather handle is unique but sometimes there may be a more of a blemish in the leather.

These hammers are not used! They are all perfectly good, brand new hammers that have never struck a rock. They have just seen a little rough treatment along the way.

Sold ''as is''. You may return the hammer, at your cost, for a refund if it is returned in the same condition as when it was sent to you.

  • Field Geology Illustrated, 2nd Edition

This is one of our highly recommended books. Field Geology Illustrated, 2nd Edition is a reliable, in depth field reference for professional geologists, serious amateur geologists, and other environmental scientists. This entirely new second edition represents the first detailed, comprehensive book on field geology in 20 years. Richly illustrated with 688 high-quality photographs and 300 interpretative sketches, this 704-page book is printed on glossy paper to show important strucutural and textural features. Contents include marine geological surveys, plutonic rocks, volcanic rocks, continental deposits, marine deposits, deformed rocks (joints, faults, folds, cleavage) weathering processes and soils, ground water, mineral deposits, and the public land survey system. The iterpretative sketches pull out the detail which you'd normally miss in the photos.

Field Geology Illustrated, 2n Edition was designed to serve as a field reference to aid in recognizing, interpreting, and describing geologic features at the outcrop. Emphasis is on the study of mesocopic features that can be viewed at outcrop scale rather than large structures or landscapes. This book is not an exhaustive or comprehensive treatise on the subject of field geology, but instead cover the information necessary to understand and describe most outcrops...

Field Geology Illustrated should be useful as a complementary text for any field-related geoscience course such as physical geology, field geology, petrology, and structural geology. The detailed descriptions, illustrations and photographs of geologic features in their field setting will be particularly useful (AG: on a field trip, vacation, or) where field trips are not feasible.

This book is also intended for anyone who needs a good basic review of field geology including graduate students preparing for field mapping, professional geologists who wish to bring their skill up to date quickly and easily and even serious amateur geologists (AG: We believe this is useful to anyone interested in geology in the field!)Self study will be particularly rewarding because an interpretative sketch and detailed description is included with each photograph.

  • Mineral Hardness Scale Ruler

The Mineral Hardness Ruler is a stimulating visual aid, educates in one phase of mineralogy, and provides the standard ruler measurement scales needed in classes.

Rockhounds, mineral enthusiasts, students, teachers, geologists, and any one interested in rocks and minerals will find the Mineral Hardness Ruler a handy visual aid for quick information on mineral hardness.

The two-sided, flexible, glossy, vinyl ruler consists of five scales: three measurement scales and two mineral hardness scales. The measurement scales are in standard ruler measurements of tenths of inches, sixteenths of inches, and millimeters. Mohs' relative hardness numbers are integrated into the inch scales, while a separate scale exists for an absolute mineral hardness scale by Rosiwal.

On one side of the ruler are pictures of the ten common minerals, in full color, selected by Mohs for his relative hardness scale. On the reverse side of the ruler are six common items with their relative hardnesses. These items, along with known minerals, can be used as a handy field kit to test the relative hardness of an unknown mineral.

Hardness is one property of a mineral that can be used to distinguish among similar minerals. A given mineral can scratch any other mineral of the same or softer hardness. Over a hundred years ago, the German mineralogist Frederick Mohs devised the relative hardness scale that has found favor with mineralogists for over a century. Others, such as Rosiwal, formed absolute hardness scales using the same minerals as Mohs. For example, diamond, the hardest substance in Nature is not twice as hard as apatite, 10 versus 5, but over twenty thousand times as hard, 140,000 versus 6.5.
