The Granite Landscape: A Natural History of Americas Mountain Domes, from Acadia to Yosemite by Tom Wessels
The Granite Landscape: A Natural History of Americas Mountain Domes, from Acadia to Yosemite by Tom Wessels
From the author/illustrator team that produced the bestselling Reading the Forested Landscape: a fascinating and beautiful natural history of North American granite summit balds.

In The Granite Landscape Tom Wessels synthesizes history, geology, biology, and personal narrative to enhance our understanding and appreciation of these high, wild places—the granite summit balds of North America. He explores the unique and fragile ecosystem that is common to exposed granite expanses from Acadia to Yosemite—how it evolved slowly over millennia, and how it is threatened today by foot traffic and overuse. Wessels' wonderfully informative and accessible text combine with his dramatic photographs and Brian Cohen's beautifully detailed illustrations to bring the denizens of the granite bald to life.

The mountains they celebrate include: Acadia National Park in Maine; the White Mountains of New Hampshire; the Adirondacks of New York; the Wind River Range of Wyoming; the Beartooths of Montana; the Enchantments of Washington; and Yosemite National Park in California. 18 photographs, 30 illustrations, 1 map, glossary, index.

The Belomo 10x handlens is definitely a wonderful tool. A Hastings triplet design that is built like a Swiss bank vault. Optics are superb (razor sharp and bright) with a much wider field of view than my Bausch & Lomb 10x Hastings - which for entomology is a big plus! My collection of hand lenses is fairly large and I also use stereo microscopes for my work, but the Belomo can always be in your pocket ready to use anywhere and enjoy at any time. Its heirloom sturdiness will provide many years of visual pleasure. My first order got lost in the mail and the great folks at Amateur Geologist didn't bat an eye and sent another which was very kind, proving that they're definitely there to help their customers. My sincere thanks and appreciation goes out to them for their fabulous service and wonderful products.
