The Geomorphic Evolution of the Yosemite Valley and Sierra Nevada Landscapes Solving the Riddles in the Rocks
The Geomorphic Evolution of the Yosemite Valley and Sierra Nevada Landscapes Solving the Riddles in the Rocks
This book provides a new interpretation of the formation of Yosemite Valley and the entire Sierra Nevada range. Whereas previous interpretations said that the Sierra Nevada was a relatively young mountain range and that most of its deep valleys were carved by glaciers, this new view indicates that the Sierra is an old range and that most of the canyons and valleys owe their existence to mass wasting, or rockfall. Contrary to what most of us learned as the truth about the formation of the Sierra, Schaffer presents evidence that glaciers performed very little erosion.
Jeff Schaffer is a naturalist and Yosemite climber who started exploring the Sierra Nevada in 1962. He has hiked more miles and explored more Sierran terrain than any other past or present naturalist or geologist, including John Muir and Fran?ois Matthes.

The Belomo 10x handlens is definitely a wonderful tool. A Hastings triplet design that is built like a Swiss bank vault. Optics are superb (razor sharp and bright) with a much wider field of view than my Bausch & Lomb 10x Hastings - which for entomology is a big plus! My collection of hand lenses is fairly large and I also use stereo microscopes for my work, but the Belomo can always be in your pocket ready to use anywhere and enjoy at any time. Its heirloom sturdiness will provide many years of visual pleasure. My first order got lost in the mail and the great folks at Amateur Geologist didn't bat an eye and sent another which was very kind, proving that they're definitely there to help their customers. My sincere thanks and appreciation goes out to them for their fabulous service and wonderful products.
