This is a four-wheeler's guide to 32 interesting, scenic, and historic back road excursions in the Eastern portion of California's Mojave Desert. The rough roads described should be attempted only by high clearance vehicles, and many require the use of four-wheel drive. These jeep trails take the backcountry explorer far off the beaten tourist paths into some remote and little visited desert country. In each outing the authors describe some aspect of the history, flora, fauna, or geology to be seen along the way. Each trail is rated in terms of difficulty so that the reader can anticipate what to expect before starting out. Also provided is information as to how much time the trail should take.

The Mitchells are not strangers to the land they write about. Roger grew up in the desert and has been exploring the Mojave, and writing about its secrets for more a half a century, He took some of the historic photos himself, more than 50 years ago. Roger and his wife Loris share a keen interest in the history and natural history of the lands they write about.

I was very satisfied with my purchase. Although shipping took so long, I forgot I had even ordered them, it was worth the wait. So glad I was able to get some of these authentic limited edition Sierra Nevada cobbles before mass wasting destroyed them all, or before glaciation comes back and covers them all up again.
