As a stocking merchant, Amateur Geologist strives to pack and ship all orders on the same business day that we receive them.
Our business days are Mondays through Fridays 9am to 5pm.
Orders shipping by UPS received before 1:30pm on a business day are picked up by UPS on the same business day.
If a order comes in before 1:30pm Pacific Time, it will go out on that day's UPS truck. We will try to process and pack orders received after the close of shipping to get it out on the day's UPS truck which picks up around 2:30pm.
For orders shipping by UPS you must provide a valid street address.
You must not provide a PO Box. There will be a $12.50 fee is the address is invalid. (Note: The address validation service used by all our software and that used by UPS and USPS validate to a postal deliverable addresses. A valid PO Box will not generate an error but it will generate the $12.50 fee.)
Packages shipped by US Mail are packed on the business day the order is received and picked up on the morning of the following business day.
For packages shipping by US Mail you must provide an address to which mail is delivered.
The post office will return any mail sent to an address which mail is not delivered. When we received returned mail the order is treated as a normal return of merchandise and we will refund the cost of the merchandise.
Our mail is picked up too early in the morning for us to have processed and packed any orders. Orders shipping by mail and orders shipping by UPS placed after our close of shipping are packed on the next business day.
Orders shipping by US Mail placed on Friday will be packed on Friday and will be picked up on Saturday. However, we do not normally process packages for shipment on the weekends.
We can't ship on Saturday, Sunday or a holiday as pickups are not made on those days. UPS does not honor the same holidays as USPS so we're able to ship on more Federal holidays using UPS.
We recommend shipping by UPS. UPS is much more reliable on deliveries. UPS provides package tracking and guaranteed delivery day
. USPS offers neither.
I've supplied a UPS Ground travel time estimate map here. I update the map periodically as UPS routing changes can change the travel time. I recommend that if you're trying to time the arrival of your package but still save money an use UPS Ground that you check the current map. To get the current UPS delivery travel time estimate map to your area use this link: UPS Ground Map
. Remember travel time is in business days where your package only travels non-holiday weekdays.
USPS Express Mail takes 1-3 days depending upon whether you live downtown in a major city, a major city suburb or a rural area. Normally USPS Priority Mail takes 2-4 days but in 10% of the time it takes much longer. USPS First-Class Mail takes 2-4 days, too. Delivery times for USPS Parcel Post are roughly the same as for UPS Ground. USPS does NOT provide a guaranteed delivery time.
Only USPS Express Mail offers tracking information. If you use USPS once the package has been turned over to the post office then there's no way for either you or for us to know where a package is until it is delivered. After a package is 3 weeks late we can replace the contents of your package once we have received a signed did not receive
statement from you.
