Step 1: Choose a Hammer
I've selected a group of hammers which work best for the rockhound. The standard rock picks are in the group but, seriously, a rockhound needs more rock cracking and chisel driving power. I suggest something around 3lbs for the best compromise in wait to striking power.
Seriously, a heavier hammer is what is needed. However, most rockhounds start out using a 20 oz or 22 oz rock pick.
