Minerals : From Apatite to Zinc
Minerals are natural, solid material that is not alive. About 3,000 kinds of minerals are building blocks of all rocks on Earth. Most particles in soil are minerals, too, as are metals, such as copper and silver. Most fossils are minerals that took on the shape of animals that lived millions of years ago. Some minerals, such as table salt, are easy to find while others, such as diamonds and gold, are very rare. Minerals are found in many different forms, in many different locations, and are used in many different ways. Conserving minerals is a big concern, and the more that is known about minerals, the better we can decide how - and when - to use them.
