This guide describes the natural and human history and outstanding scenic beauty in the area to the south and east of Canyonlands National Park: the Bureau of Land Management's greatly enlarged Canyon Rims Recreation Area.
The first part of this richly-illustrated, large-format book contains detailed descriptions of the immense recreation area's diverse geography, fascinating geology, unusual biological communities, unique human history, and current uses. Another section lists its access roads and extensive off-road vehicle trail system. Other chapters provide details about developed and primitive camping and twenty-five named scenic overlooks. Still others offer suggested self-guided tours for highway vehicles, off-road vehicles and mountain bikes, plus sample hiking and backpacking routes. The book also lists many specific highlights in the recreation area for visitors who pursue other special recreational activities and interests.
